DOF Subsea utilizes Newton's M3200UW Underwater Scanner for a High Accuracy Laser Survey of a Drill Center

The Newton Labs M3200UW Underwater Laser Scanner was recently used in a high accuracy laser survey of a drill center by DOF Subsea. The M3200UW is one of many subsea scanners manufactured by Newton Labs.

These scans were gathered at a depth of 4,500 feet with the M3200UW scanner deployed on a work class ROV. Location data was provided by an IMU and navigation software was used for coordination of all sensors and rendition of the final results.
For this application, the Newton Labs M3200UW was used in the fixed line mode. Many of Newton's subsea scanners can utilize both internal motor scanning (laser line sweeps the scan) and a fixed line mode (the laser line is fixed and an IMU or other location device provides location data).
The Newton Labs M3200UW was provided to DOF by Unique Group and technical support including system integration was provided by both Unique and by C.A. Richards & Associates, Inc., Newton's representatives in the Gulf Coast.

'We were very impressed with the results of these scans", said Haseeb Rafeek, Technical Manager Houston DOF SubSea. Not only did the measurements tie-in with respect to the design drawings, but there was no evidence of distortion or curving of the ends of the laser lines at depth that have been reported with other underwater laser scanner makes, Haseeb went on to say, "This was our first use of a Newton Labs Underwater Laser Scanner and we were very pleased with how easy they are to use."
